Candles to LED: Is the Holly Retrobright amazing?

Short answer: YES!

Our 1966 Corvette has been in the family since the 80s and for as long as I can remember, my father disliked the headlights. They light output and the hideaway motors not working optimally always seemed to come up in conversation. So what did that lead to? Never driving it after dark. Well this all changed this summer.

Our friends over at VetteLights sent over some Holley Retrobright sealed bulbs for the old ‘66 and boy was I excited. I really have never worked on this car or a car this old before, so I was nervous and excited all at the same time. With this type of setup, they are plug and play, but you have to think a bit. I used an old wiring diagram to figure out which color wires were high vs. low and got to work installing these things.

If I could explain to you how amazingly bright and white these were compared to the old Halogens and T9s, imagine an old flashlight with a dull bulb and dying batteries compared to a new LED flashlight that is fully charged and ready to use. Meguiar's Leather Product Showdown

Meguiar’s is one of my favorite brands. They are always stretching their product line to come up with new and exciting things. Just recently, they informed me about their new line of ceramic products. I have only read about ceramic coating and with the Meguiar’s name attached - it made me want to give it a try.

Today though, I gave their full line of leather options a chance. There are many options for leather car and we all are guilty of not using them. The leather just sits, dries and then it is pretty much ruined. Get rid of your car then repeat.

Should You Upgrade To LED?

We have seen them for years on cars - starting on the high end and now even working their way down to the cheap side of things. We also have seen people upgrading on their own, like the HID craze of the 2000s era. I have always wondered what will happen if you convert your car to LED headlights. Will it ruin everything?

Well I was sent a set for my low-beams and I gave them a shot. Install was the same as putting in a new headlight bulb and there is a bit more of a bulky connector. With that being said, the similarities end there. Once turning them on, you are greeted with an amazing whiteness. The headlights are brighter and whiter - I show you below how it compares. You also will notice a small fan running. After installing these, I realized this is not a fanless design. Some are - these aren’t. That is to be seen how long they last. Either way, I really enjoy this upgrade and now it’s time to see how long they actually last, fan included.

**One side note, I really haven’t had any angry people driving towards me. No headlight flashes, no complaints. Seems like it doesn’t bother anybody else either…**

Nomad Base Station - Go Wireless in the Garage

When I got my Apple Watch, my biggest worry was damage. These things are not cheap and I did not want to just dive into the engine bay with it on. I also didn’t want to just toss is on my workbench with tools, nuts, bolts and grease.
When I saw the Nomad Base Station, I knew this was it. Once I sent this up on my workbench it was only a matter of time before I was completely comfortable with the safety of my watch and phone. The unit is metal, leather and beautiful - too beautiful for my garage honestly. The Base Station would look amazing in the office of Steve Jobs or Darth Vader. Since installing though, it has easily charged my devices, allowed me to pick them up and check other YouTubers for How-To videos and finally look going while sitting still.
